About the role

BD Finance is a world-class team that is recognized as a valued partner to all areas of the business. It is our task to provide exceptional financial management, enabled by the most efficient processes and the most robust financial systems.

As VAT accountant you will be member of the VAT & Intrastat team which is part of the Finance Operations Center of Excellence.

• You will perform accounting and financial activities in the VAT & Intrastat area to improve the efficiency of services provided to Europe and EMA Countries.
• Identify process improvements, implement and follow-up on actions to improve internal controls and ensure adherence to policies & procedures.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Responsible for the timely and correct handling of all matters concerning the day to day bookkeeping, preparation of the VAT returns and other related returns (IC listing, Client Listing & Intrastat) of a specific assigned portfolio for more complex VAT countries (ex Swiss, Belgium, Spain)
• Guarantee timeliness and correctness of all VAT returns and other related returns and follow up on possible corrections
• Ability to understand and analyze specific VAT questions (e.g. import/export of goods, Triangle EU transactions,…)
• Assist in the process development of future VAT – help to ensure BD is ready for VAT in the digital age (ViDa)
• Review of reconciliations of other VAT accountants in Blackline
• Perform closing transactions (eg. VAT clearing/postings for own portfolio) and audit assistance
• Main contact for internal and external audit – coordinate the audit deliverables for the full team
• Responsible to meet the deliverables and deadlines in case of governmental audits
• Assist, guide and be back up for junior members in the team and welcome new joiners in the team (buddy principle)
• Act as a point of reference and expertise for the team and audit
• Identify possible standardization opportunities and implement process changes in own portfolio in order to support continuous improvement
• Stay up to date on VAT requirements through regular contact with Local Finances, VAT newsletters (eg. Taxback) and yearly refresh training (Cevora)
• Participate in projects to support the implementation of new tools, process changes or integrations within your area of responsibility

About you

• Proficient knowledge of English
• Bachelor in Accounting - Master in Tax or equivalent
• Strong compliance mindset
• Autonomy, anticipation, responsiveness, hands on mentality and team spirit is key
• Very organized and consider yourself an excellent planner
• Good professional communication skills towards managers, peers and other stakeholders
• You have good Excel skills and a problem-solving attitude
• Knowledge of SAP is a strong plus
• Financial accountability
